International Symposium on Capacity Building for Sustainable Oceans

Nereus Director of Policy Yoshitaka Ota acted as moderator at the International Symposium on Capacity Building for Sustainable Oceans from July 19 to 20 in Tokyo, Japan.

The symposium brought together representatives from scientific organizations, government, industry, academia, civil society, and international organizations from around the world in order to explore a variety of approaches to bettering the health of the world’s coasts and oceans.

Interdisciplinary solutions for ocean issues: The Nereus Program Annual General Meeting 2016

The Nereus Program was created to look at ocean questions that need input from experts on a range of topics from around the world. This past May 30 to June 3, nearly 50 of these experts gathered at the University of British Columbia for the Nereus Program Annual General Meeting. It was an important week for sharing new research, workshopping ideas, collaborating on projects, making connections, and thinking about ocean issues in new ways.

Nereus Report: Predicting Future Oceans — Climate Change, Oceans & Fisheries

A report entitled “Predicting Future Oceans: Climate Change, Oceans & Fisheries” newly released by the Nereus program, an international interdisciplinary research program aimed at predicting future oceans, suggests that future seafood supply in the world will be substantially altered by climate change, overfishing and habitat destruction if we do not take actions.
