Nereus Alumnus Andre Boustany, Duke, and Fellow Richard Caddell, Utrecht, will hold a side event at the consultations of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea relating to the Conservation and Management of Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks. The consultations will be held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, from 23 to 27 May 2016. The side event will be held Friday, May 27, and is entitled “Science, Policy and Civil Society: The Role of NGOs in Global Fisheries Management.”
The consultations will be on a fish stock agreement for fish that have wide ocean migrations or migrate through different economic zones (“straddling stocks”). This agreement will assist management of fisheries of these stocks, fish such as tuna, shark, marlin and swordfish.
