Nereus Senior Research Fellow Daniel Dunn (Duke) will be attending the workshop “A Conservation Agenda for Biodiversity Beyond National Jurisdiction” at the University of Cambridge from May 10th to May 11th.
The workshop, part of a partnership project between UNEP-WCMC, the University of Cambridge, IUCN, and Birdlife International, explores the changing threats to biodiversity beyond national jurisdiction (BBNJ) and considers feasible legal options for its conservation and sustainable use.
Legal, conservation, policy, and industry experts will discuss the potential form of a new implementing agreement under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea for the conservation and sustainable use of BBNJ. Emerging trends in marine activities likely to affect BBNJ and the efficacy of a range of legal approaches to address those threats will also be discussed.
