An ocean of diplomacy – negotiating for the health of our common ocean at the United Nations

Dr. Marjo Vierros, Adjunct Senior Fellow at the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability and Liu Institute Visiting Fellow, will be giving a talk at the Liu Institute for Global Issues on April 27th about the how questions of economic benefit and political control over ocean-related legislation feature in current negotiations at the United Nations pertaining to the protection of oceans beyond national jurisdictions.

Acting as panelists are Dr. Yoshitaka Ota, Director (Policy) at the Nippon Foundation-UBC Nereus Program at the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries and Research Fellow at the Liu Institute for Global Issues, Professor Rashid Sumaila of the Fisheries Economics Research Unit at the Institute for the Oceans and Fisheries, Honorary Research Associate at the Nereus Program, and Faculty Affiliate at the Liu Institute for Global Issues, and Dr. Jane Lister, Associate Director and Research Associate at the Centre for Transportation Studies at the Sauder School of Business and past Senior Research Fellow at the Liu Institute for Global Issues.
