Postdoctoral fellowship in international fisheries law at the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (1.0 FTE)

Job description
The Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance seeks to fill a position for a Postdoctoral Researcher in the field of public international law, with a focus on international fisheries law. The successful candidate will be part of the Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS) as well as the Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law (UCWOSL). NILOS is one of the leading law of the sea institutes in the world, with collaborative links with most other significant law of the sea institutes.

Setting of the postdoc research
NILOS is a participating institution in the research programme ‘Nereus – Predicting the Future Ocean’, co-led by the Nippon Foundation and the University of British Columbia. In the framework of this participation, NILOS is looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher.

We expect the candidate to:
-develop and execute, in consultation with NILOS senior staff, a research project focusing on climate change and international fisheries law;
-actively engage with Nereus-fellows at the other participating institutions in the Nereus programme; and
-actively engage with staff from NILOS and UCWOSL on research and other activities.

Qualifications
Completed PhD in the field of public international law, preferably international fisheries law or related fields;
Strong affinity with the core theme of the project;
Ability to work with researchers from other disciplines;
Team player and good communication skills; and
Excellent command of English (command of Dutch is an asset).

Offer
We offer a position (1.0 FTE) for two years. The gross salary – depending on previous qualifications and experience – ranges between €3,427 and €3,899 (scale 11 according to the Collective Labour Agreement Dutch Universities) gross per month for a full-time employment. Salaries are supplemented with a holiday bonus of 8 % and a year-end bonus of 8.3 % per year.
