Daniel Dunn, Nereus Senior Research Fellow in the Marine Geospatial Ecology Lab at Duke University, has recently been published in BioScience. Dunn is the co-author of “Dynamic Ocean Management: Identifying the Critical Ingredients of Dynamic Approaches to Ocean Resource Management,” a paper that identifies the benefits of dynamic ocean management (DOM) for fisheries. By using real-time data, Dunn and his colleagues argue that DOM can fully utilize target quotas, reduce discards of commercially valuable species, and reduce interactions with species of conservation concern.
